Residency For Top Executives, Managers and Specialised Workers

This category for residency applies for different situations such as:

  1. Specialized knowledge workers. The aim is to attract those with special and unique talents and knowledge that will contribute into the development of Costa Rica, without taking away job opportunities of the local workforce. In this type of residencies the Minister of Labor gets involved, as it annually publishes a list of non-recommend professionals, a vital publication to keep in mind for the application.

  2.  Managers of corporations. Those who create a corporation (regardless of the amount invested) and serve as managers can apply for this residency. Again, the Minister of Labor will play a role to determine if the company has the potential to create jobs for Costa Ricans or not. It is important to mention that it does not require to have any employees hired.

  3. Top Executives of Multinationals and Free Trade Zone Regime (FTZ) Companies. A multinational and FTZ company can register before the Dirección General de Migración y Extranjería (DGME) in order to obtain a fast track procedure to obtain the residency of their top executives.

This type of special visa covers the spouse, sons/daughters under 25 and the parents of the applicants.
